Abstract

The current study aims to synthesize zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) from Ocimum sanctum Linn leaves by the usage of biological method and to formulate antimicrobial soap for bacterial and fungal infections. The synthesis nanoparticles were analyzed and characterized using diverse techniques including UV-visible spectroscopy, X-ray diffractometry, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The result indicates that the synthesized nanoparticle had a hexagonal shape. The average size of the synthesized ZnO nanoparticle from O. sanctum Linn leaves extract is approximately 9 nm. The study additionally investigated the anti-microbial activity and anti- fungal activity of synthesized ZnO NPs using the agar well diffusion method. The maximum zone of inhibition was observed at 500 μg/ml concentration. Microbial infections are a prevalent problem among individuals, and the effectiveness of using antimicrobial soaps for their treatment has been extensively studied. The formulated natural cleaning soaps showed promise in their ability to combat bacterial and fungal infections, indicating their potential application in the field of healthcare. Moreover, the soap formulations had been evaluated for numerous physicochemical parameters, and that they demonstrated good performance in those evaluations. The utilization of plant-based substances, encompassing O. sanctum Linn leaves, provides benefits in terms of accessibility and effectiveness, enabling producers to generate profits while minimizing or eliminating adverse effects. Overall, this study highlights the synthesis of ZnO NPs using O. sanctum Linn leaves and explores their potential utility in the improvement of antimicrobial soaps with good overall performance. The usage of plant-based materials in nanoparticle synthesis and product formulation holds promise for the agricultural and pharmaceutical industries, presenting environmentally friendly and sustainable alternatives.
